5 Common Mistakes That Kill Your Online Store's Conversion Rate
Simple technical and marketing mistakes whose impact on the buying decision is far bigger than most store owners expect.
A bigger ad campaign alone won't lift your conversion rate — first you need to make sure the foundation is right, otherwise you'll be driving traffic to a store that loses visitors before they ever reach checkout.
1. Product pages without enough information
Customers buy when they feel confident. Few photos, a generic description, no sizes or clear technical details — all of that makes the decision harder, and the customer goes looking somewhere else that gives them more confidence.
2. A long or complicated checkout
Every extra step in checkout costs you a share of customers. If you require account registration, or there are more than 3 steps, that alone is enough to make a ready-to-buy customer back out.
3. No quick answers to pre-purchase questions
Many purchase decisions hinge on a simple question ("How many days does delivery take?", "Is there a warranty?"). If the answer takes hours, or never comes at all, the sale is lost in that exact moment.
4. No follow-up on abandoned carts
A large share of visitors add to cart and never complete — for many reasons (hesitation, interruption, price comparison). Without a follow-up message (WhatsApp or email) to remind them, most of those opportunities are gone for good.
5. Not measuring anything at all
Without real tracking of visitor behaviour (where they stop, which products they browse most, where they abandon the cart), every optimisation decision becomes a guess. Measurement is the foundation that tells you where you actually need to fix things.
Bottom line: before increasing your ad budget, make sure the store itself is ready to turn a visit into a sale.
